Junior Youth Program
Empowering our youth can change the world!
Bahá’í programs for junior youth and teens give youth the tools they need to create spiritually centered lives. Tapping the creativity and energy of each participant, our programs empower youth to become their true selves.
Through study, service, friendship and the arts, youth gain a powerful understanding of their purpose in life. As they learn to care for mind, body and soul, participants begin to play important roles in their communities, leading forward-thinking activities and inspiring positive change.
Youth can lead us to a better day! As they learn to lead spiritually dynamic, creative lives youth can play important roles in building a better world.
Events:
Summer Junior Youth Empowerment Group - weekly service and friendship gathering will take place over the summer.

Sat, July 21 Random Act of Kindness
Today the JYEG made baking jars filled with ingredients for the YUMMIEST chocolate chip cookies. They took them into Langley City and delivered them to people in businesses there as an Act of Kindness and to say thank you for supporting bake sales that previous JY had taken there and sold to raise funds for the Red Cross. They had lots of fun packing jars, eating ice cream and learning how a simple act of kindness can make someone’s bad day turn great, as one person told the JY when they gave her a jar of cookies!
Monday, Jul 30 Visited Magnolia Garden then bowling
Today we visited Magnolia Gardens Care Centre and brought flowers to the seniors, had a visit and sang some songs with them! The seniors were delighted to have the group come and visit! We followed it up with bowling and pizza and discovered the Wacky Bowling is the most fun kind of bowling!

Another fun day! Painting sewage drains with yellow fish to let people know what drains go to our precious salmon spawning stream, we managed not to get covered in paint. After working in the hot sun we had lunch and cooled off in the outdoor pool. Thanks goes out to all these awesome kids!
Sun, Aug 19 Bake Sale to raise funds for The Mona Foundation followed by swimming at the Fort Langley Pool

Today's service project was met with tantalizing treats and happy customers. The kids chose this service project, to have a bake sale and raise funds for the Mona Foundation (www.monafoundation.org). They were met by heavy foot traffic and several compliments on their beautiful and tempting treats, such as candy sushi, cake pops and flower cookies on a stem, as well as their efforts to do a good deed. Their efforts raised $80. Great job! Thanks to all the parents who help the kids realize their service goal.
Other activities completed this summer...
Random Act of Kindness...washing neighbours cars
Made sandwich lunches and delivered them to the homeless on Hasting St.
School supply collection for Langley's inner-city schools
Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program - Starting this Fall
This fall we will be offering a more formal JYEG program for pre-teens. The junior youth spiritual empowerment program is open to young people aged between approximately 11 and 13 and assists them to navigate through a crucial stage in their lives.
Those in their early adolescent years possess altruism, a sense of justice, eagerness to learn about the universe, and a desire to contribute to the construction of a better world.
The program helps them form a strong moral identity and empowers them to contribute to the well-being of their communities and the world at large.
By developing their spiritual qualities (virtues), their intellectual capabilities and their capacities for service to society, the participants come to see that they can become agents of positive change in the world.
The program adopts a participatory mode of learning where the facilitator and participants learn from each other.
Groups of participants engage in activities such as artistic expression, discussion, drama, cooperative games, study of literature, story telling and acts of community service.
The junior youth program explores themes from a Bahá'í perspective, but is not a formal religious education program. It is open to all, subject to parental approval. Junior youth groups meet on a regular basis and there is no written homework.
Please see the attached brochure for further information on the program and its content. Our program will run once a week (day to be decided by participants). It will be facilitated by Paul and Andra Lincke (see below for profile). Please contact them if you are interested in having your pre-teen participate at [email protected]

Paul and Andra are both school teachers and long time Baha'is. They see in their daily work life at school how children aspire to do well, and thrive on being valued contributors yet so many young people struggle to believe in themselves and in their ability to have a positive impact in the world. Paul and Andra understand that the smallest acts of service can have a great impact, not only on the recipient but on the giver as well.
